The Scratching Post is a family-run cat cafe in the heart of Bovey Tracey, Devon, owned by Angie Davidson Moore with her family (Tim, Oskar, Morgan) and supported by dedicated team members Paige and Tilly. Influenced by Japanese cat cafes, the venue combines bright lucky-cat colours with friendly cafe comfort in a warm, colourful setting. Cat welfare comes first in every decision—the cafe operates with calm, bookable sessions to ensure both cats and visitors have a good day. The mission is straightforward: create a warm, friendly space where people relax, enjoy good food and drink, and spend time with cats in a carefully managed environment.
The nine resident cats each have distinct personalities: Deborah (a silver smoke Maine Coon with a big voice), Dexter (her solid black brother, huge and food-motivated), Bing (sleek and affectionate), Tilly (gentle tabby and white who loves brushing), Luna (small black and white with big attitude), Ron and Fred (playful brothers), Suki (ginger mother cat), and Dolly (sensitive tortoiseshell). Every cat is an individual—some come straight over to say hello, others prefer to watch from favourite perches or enjoy peaceful naps. Reviewers consistently praised the friendly staff, delicious cakes, amazing coffee, adorable welcoming cats, and the cosy, quiet atmosphere. Many highlighted excellent value—just over £10 for entry, coffee, and cake for a group.
Visit fees: £4.50 adults, £3.50 ages 11-16, £2.50 Kitten Club (under 11s). Main cafe is for ages 11+; ages 11-16 can visit alone if following rules independently. Kitten Club sessions (ages 10 and under) require a responsible adult present. The menu features hot/cold drinks including espresso, latte, mocha, hot chocolate, specialty tea, and matcha latte, plus fresh cakes, traybakes, teacakes, gourmet paninis on local focaccia, individual quiches, sausage rolls, and locally crafted scotch eggs. Located at 5-7 Fore Street, Bovey Tracey TQ13 9AD, the cafe sits in the town centre near independent shops and regular Saturday markets. Booking essential; walk-ins welcome during quieter periods. Gift vouchers available. Pay and display parking available behind Methodist Church. Explore Fore Street shops and Dartmoor before or after your visit.
