Purrfect Day Cafe opened on August 8, 2018, as Kentucky's very first cat cafe, founded on three core principles: adopt out as many cats as possible to save lives and relieve shelter burden; be a fiscal resource to shelter partners allowing expanded reach; and create a welcoming gathering space for those sharing a passion for animal welfare. In just five years, the organization has achieved unprecedented success: adopting out over 10,000 cats (making it the highest-adopting cat cafe organization in the country), donating over $110,000 to shelter partners, and establishing itself as a model that aims to disrupt the pet adoption industry. The Louisville location's success led to expansion in November 2020 with a second location in Covington, Kentucky. Currently, the organization adopts out almost 3,000 kitties annually from over 60 counties in Kentucky, Indiana, and Ohio.

The concept behind Purrfect Day is revolutionary: "cuddles, not cages." Every cat has its own unique personality that visitors can genuinely experience in a free-range environment where animals roam freely, be themselves, and showcase the little quirks that make them lovable. Even visitors not ready to adopt provide valuable socialization that makes cats more adoptable for future families. All adoptions occur through the Kentucky Humane Society partnership. The Louisville location offers private party packages beginning with one hour in a private upstairs lounge customizable with visitor decoration and catered food, followed by exclusive cat room access for up to 14 people. Reservations are highly recommended for meeting potential forever friends. The cafe hosts diverse special events including yoga, trivia, painting, candle-making, kids crafts, and story time—all designed to bring community together around shared passions while supporting socialization and adoption outcomes.
