The Cat's Closet is a uniquely dual-purpose vintage clothing shop and cat lounge in Bloomington, founded by Sydney and Clairessa with the vision of creating a safe, welcoming space for both cats and people. Opened in September 2021, the business combines sustainable fashion with animal rescue—every purchase helps adoptable cats find their forever homes while the cafe provides a comfortable free-roaming environment that simulates a home.
The shop and cat lounge are completely separated down the middle to ensure the safety of cats, visitors, and vintage merchandise. The cat lounge houses 10-25 free-roaming adoptable and kittens sponsored by
The Greene County Humane Society. All cats are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, and ready for adoption pending application approval. Visitors can relax, study, or play games while surrounded by friendly felines. The lounge offers reasonable pricing with frequent specials and is known for community events including yoga classes, art classes, bingo nights, and wellness activities. The vintage clothing collection continuously evolves, featuring high-quality, affordable pieces including t-shirts, sweatshirts, sweaters, denim, jackets, and hats in sizes from petite to plus-size—deliberately inclusive of all bodies and budgets.
The owners are deeply passionate about animal rights advocacy and actively speak out on community issues related to small business ownership and pet owner conduct. They're known for their generosity—offering free lounge visits on occasion and extending time for visitors beyond their paid sessions when the cafe isn't busy. Staff are genuinely kind, helpful, and clearly invested in both the cats' wellbeing and visitors' experience. Adoption applications cost a flat $50 for adult cats or $75 for kittens, including first-round vaccinations, de-worming, FeLV/FIV testing, microchipping, and spay/neuter surgery. The Cat's Closet has become a beloved community gathering space where fashion, feline companionship, and social responsibility beautifully intersect.
