Paws Cat Cafe was born from founder Elaine's personal struggle with mental health and her discovery that cats could be life-changing therapy. Now run by her daughter Lauren as director, this family business champions the mantra "for coffee, for cake, for cats"—with a genuine mission to support both feline and human wellbeing. The cafe rescues cats with complex needs: Belle and Jasper from Romania (caged for two years), the feral siblings Harry and Hermione from the streets, and many others finding safety here as they prepare for adoption. All are carefully rehabilitated and allowed to set the pace for interaction. Paws partners with local rescues and supports them in rehoming; private events and birthday packages (£13 gift bags) make the experience accessible to everyone.
Each cat has a detailed, moving story woven into the cafe's identity. Visitors repeatedly praise how "well-cared-for and friendly" the residents are, from the playful Blossom and her sister Bluebell (hand-reared after a difficult start) to Frank, a deaf "marshmallow" who's become the cafe's beloved mascot and even has a chocolate bar named after him. Reviewers consistently highlight the "calm and welcoming" staff, the "adorable and well-loved" cats, and the therapeutic quality of the space. The afternoon tea experience (90 minutes, pre-booked) receives particular praise.
