Located on the backside of University Mall in Fairfax, Virginia, Patriot Pawsabilities Cat Lounge (commonly called P2) was founded by Monique Ryan, a retired Army warrant officer and devoted animal enthusiast. The facility consists of two main areas—the Main Lounge and a separate Kitten Room—housing up to 35 cats and 20 kittens, all cage-free in a bright, colorful environment designed to feel home-like and welcoming. The lounge's layout features climbing structures, wall-integrated obstacles, and numerous hiding spots that create an enriching environment encouraging natural feline behavior. Seating options throughout the space include tables, hanging chairs, and ground-level spots, allowing guests to relax while observing and interacting with the resident cats.
Admission is priced at approximately $15.20 per hour for students and $19 per hour for adults, among the most affordable options in the region. The facility cannot serve food or beverages directly but welcomes guests to bring purchases from other mall vendors. P2 distinguishes itself through diverse programming including Crafting with Cats classes, Meowvie Nights, trivia events, and partnerships with Warrior Kids Yoga for cat yoga classes.
Private event rentals are available, though birthday parties for children under 13 are no longer hosted due to safety considerations. Reservations are recommended and easily completed through the website.
All cats and kittens are available for adoption through partnerships with
The Lone Ranger Cat Rescue,
To The ResQ, and
Pets Ltd. Every animal has been FIV/FELV tested, fully vaccinated, spayed or neutered, and microchipped prior to adoption availability. Visitors consistently report that the staff displays genuine care for individual cats and willingness to match visitors with suitable animals for adoption. Reviews emphasize the facility's cleanliness, the engaging environment where cats can be observed climbing and exploring overhead structures, and the staff's patience and knowledge. The morning hours are noted as optimal for observing more active feline behavior, and a small treat dispenser (requiring quarters) provides engagement opportunities throughout visits.
