Mata × Tabi operates in Sapporo, Hokkaido as a unique hybrid model: a protected cat shelter integrated directly with a social enterprise providing employment for people with disabilities. The owner's vision emerged from separate commitments—eight years of personal rescue work adopting severely ill and malnourished cats from Sapporo's animal center, combined with professional experience observing barriers to employment for disabled individuals. Rather than extracting profit, all cafe revenue is directed to the disabled staff members who co-operate the facility, creating a sustainable model where rescued cats and vulnerable people support one another.

The facility operates from a renovated historical house, with two floors designed to accommodate various visitor preferences and prices (¥600-¥2,200 depending on room grade and duration).
