Lazy Cat Lounge & Cafe is located in Victor, New York within the Eastview Mall and represents the continuation of a legacy begun by Lisa and Todd Cragle, who opened Purrs and Paws Cat Café on February 14, 2020—the first cat cafe in the Greater Rochester area. Over three years of operation, Purrs and Paws facilitated adoptions for 593 cats by providing a lounge setting designed to resemble a living room where rescue cats could interact with visitors in a comfortable, acclimated environment. In July 2023, Sarah Thorne, a local volunteer in the rescue community with over 10 years of experience in the coffee industry, became the owner and continued the mission under the new Lazy Cat Lounge & Cafe name. The venue partners with multiple local rescues:
Room for One More,
ROC the Mad Catter,
Colony Caregivers,
Love for Misfit Meeps, and
Ferals and Kittens and Cats, Oh My!. The space functions as a living room-style lounge with comfortable couches, allowing visitors to sit with cats while enjoying beverages and snacks from an on-site cafe.
Appointments are required to visit the cat lounge, where visitors interact with multiple adoptable cats to determine compatibility before applying through their respective rescue partner. Each cafe partner maintains their own adoption application process, typically available on their websites, with rescue organizations reviewing applications, contacting references, and making approval decisions within days to a week. The adoption fee is standardized at $200 per cat regardless of age and includes spaying/neutering, age-appropriate vaccinations including rabies and distemper, combo testing, and flea and worm treatment. Many cats are microchipped as well. Once application approval is received from the rescue, the cafe contacts adopters to schedule Sunday pickups toward closing time. The cafe beverage and snack offerings allow visitors to bring refreshments directly into the cat lounge during their visit.
Reviewers consistently describe the experience as clean, calm, and passionate about feline welfare. One reviewer specifically noted "the love and passion for all the cats is very visible" and highlighted staff willingness to "protect the cats at all cost." Multiple visitors emphasized cleanliness, friendly and knowledgeable staff, and the relaxing atmosphere. The venue succeeds in serving both social/leisure purposes and adoption-focused visits, with reviewers noting successful adoptions following cafe visits. The establishment is described as "impeccably clean" with "relaxing" ambience, positioning it as a destination for stress relief alongside functional adoption support.
