Fat Cat Cafe is Tallahassee's feline adoption center combined with a café and eclectic boutique, all wrapped in a groovy atmosphere. The philosophy is simple: keep the focus on the fur-babies while offering modest treats, beverages, and access to the cuddle room at modest prices. The entry fee of $12 per hour helps keep the doors open and the kitties purring.
The café side is intentionally small, serving pod coffees from Crazy Cups, various breakfast blends, bottled sodas, water, tea, and granola bars or candies. The adoption center itself is the heart of the operation, housing multiple felines at any given time—all from local Tallahassee rescues including
CARE,
Smitten with Kittens,
ECAH, and
FALC. Every cat is spayed or neutered, tested negative for Feline Leukemia and Feline AIDS, microchipped, vaccinated against rabies, and free from parasites. The cafe celebrates all kitties: short hair, long hair, big, small, and especially special needs cats—every one deserves a chance at a loving home.
Betty's Boutique features work from local artists and artisans, including soaps from Sassafrass Soapery, catnip bags by Gail, and paintings by Joy Green and Karen Knight Veal, plus novelty items. The space features jazz music creating a super relaxing atmosphere. The cafe hosts adult painting classes and children's painting classes where you can paint and pet cats while your work dries. Children 12 and under must be supervised by an adult. Staff are knowledgeable and kind, and adoption is handled through each individual rescue according to their requirements. This is a place where stress relief meets genuine rescue work—an instant cure for depression with endless entertainment from sweet, well-socialized kitties.
