Founded in 2019 by Caroline, Darling Darlings Cat Lounge is a retro-themed therapy space on Great Yarmouth's seafront filled with vintage memorabilia from the 1950s-1990s. Named after Caroline's beloved cat Francis (her pet name for him was "darling"), the cafe operates as a community project where six therapy-trained rescue cats create meaningful connections with guests. The venue prioritizes customer wellbeing through a safe, compassionate environment that helps ease anxiety, ADHD, and everyday stress.
The six resident rescue cats each have unique personalities: Coconut (11-year-old who lost a leg but thrives), Stanley (with wheat and gluten allergies), Teddy (epileptic therapy cat who visits care homes and schools—flash photography prohibited to protect him), Maverick (hairless Sphynx known for endless cuddles), and Ernie and Olive (also Sphynx rescues). All cats are vet-checked and well-loved. Reviewers praised how genuinely cared-for the cats are, highlighted the warm staff who clearly adore them, and loved the nostalgic setting with vintage games and memorabilia creating memorable experiences.
