Cateriam opened in Tokyo's Setagaya City, near the bohemian Shimokitazawa district, as a comprehensive cat experience venue treating resident felines as cherished family members rather than commercial props. The proprietor, Shigeru Shigemorin, personally raised most of the 14 cats currently in residence—a commitment evident in the animals' calm, well-socialized demeanor and diverse personality spectrum (naturally playful, mischievous, contemplative). Operating since the establishment's founding, Cateriam maintains rigorous health protocols: annual vaccinations, consistent parasite management, and meticulous behavioral monitoring ensure cats thrive emotionally and physically. The venue actively partners with rescue organizations, particularly regarding adoption services, and maintains a reverent memorial shrine honoring deceased residents (Yume, Guri, Ben, Goma, and others)—a poignant reminder of staff's genuine emotional bonds with each resident.
