Cat Zen Cafe and Lounge is Saint Charles' first cat lounge, offering a distinctive experience combining coffee service with adoptable rescue cat interaction in a bright, welcoming, deliberately calming space. Visitors book time in the cozy cat lounge to hang out with adoptable cats while enjoying beverages and light snacks from partner local bakeries available for additional purchase. All adoptable cats come from Smelly Cat Rescue, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to helping outdoor, stray, barn cats and kittens through rescue, adoption, spay/neuter services, and community programs. Rescue cats are fully vetted before entering the lounge. Children ages six and younger are restricted to 30-minute time slots, while 60-minute reservations are designated for ages seven and older with no exceptions. One adult per two children under age 12 is required, with parents signing waivers for all minors. Children two and under visit free, though strollers and car seats are not permitted in the lounge.

The organization prioritizes group management to protect feline welfare—parties of 10 or more people must reserve the space as private events rather than joining public sessions. Private events can accommodate up to 15 guests. The maximum group size policy reflects understanding that large groups generate excess noise and distress for cats while distracting other visitors. All cats featured in the lounge are spayed/neutered, microchipped for identification, and fully vaccinated.
